Centrum Autisme Zuid-Limburg

The “Centrum Autisme Zuid-Limburg” [South Limburg Centre for Autism] is a complex for autism care, comprising:
  • Xonar (assistance for youth)
  • Mondriaan Zorggroep [Care Group], Maastricht Regional Institute for Outpatient Mental Health Care (known by the Dutch acronym RIAGG), Sittard RIAGG)
  • Radar (care for the mentally handicapped)
An effort is also under way to establish a tight network of other institutions that work with autistic people such as schools for special education, social work, etc.

Diagnosis and assistance activities:

  • Diagnosis: A diagnosis is needed to determine whether there is autism. The SPDs (care for the mentally handicapped), Youth Care Agency and schools refer to the RIAGGs in the region for this purpose. For complicated diagnosis questions on autism or for second opinions, cases can be referred to: the Autism Diagnosis Team at the Centre for Autism. The team conducts consultations and provides treatment and supervision advice.
  • Assistance: The Centre for Autism boasts the following possibilities:
    • Social cognition training
    • Home training and diagnostic home training
    • Courses for parents
    • Intensive home guidance and support
    • Independence training in courses for teenagers and (young) adults
    • Care counselling
    • Coordination of care for adults with autism
    • Help in e.g. requesting personal family assistance
  • Autism Information Centre: An information and documentation centre for (parents and partners of) people with autism.
It is an initiative of the Centre for Autism and the NVA, staffed by volunteers.
